Portal for online dispute resolution launched

NEW DELHI: Legal and IT firm Legal Vistas Consultancy has launched a portal for resolution of disputes arising between consumers, investors and companies.

The platform `earbitration.net' is an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) mechanism that would cut arbitration costs to almost half, besides saving time.

``With the Indian courts overburdened, the online dispute resolution method would reduce the pressure on the courts and bring down the cost of litigation and time required,'' Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food Akhilesh Prasad Singh said at a symposium organised by earbitration.net here.

The company would initially provide this service to its clients and plans to expand further. ``It is like other dispute resolution mechanisms ,'' Legal Vistas Partner Syed Kamaran Razvi said. The award passed by the forum will be legally binding under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act 1996.

The aim of this article is to advocate the use of online dispute resolution mechanism (ODRM) for resolving International and Indian Commercial disputes. The necessity of the same has arisen due to the growing use of alternative dispute resolving mechanism (ADRM) in India to reduce the burdening of the already overburdened courts in India. The popularity and use of ADRM is increasing but it can achieve its best only if the same is integrated with the information technology.
