CyberTribunal relaunched as an online moot arbitration program
The famous CyberTribunal, which had ceased operations in 1999, has recently been relaunched in the context of an online moot arbitration competition organized by universities in Canada, France, and Belgium.
This first ever ODR provider to offer both online mediation and online arbitration was founded in 1996 by Professors Karim Benyekhlef and Pierre Trudel as a dispute resolution platform for B2C disputes arising out of online transactions. Housed at the University of Montreal, it was essentially an experimental and academic venture. It closed down, due to lack of funding, in December of 1999, after having succeeded in a pioneering demonstration of the potentials of ODR.
The online moot arbitration competition took place from 8 to 26 March of this year and involved teams from Lyon (France), Montreal, and Namur (Belgium). It was conducted exclusively in French.
