As a Rotary World Peace Fellow, he is presently pursuing a Masters in International Studies from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. From 2001 to 2004, he was a Research Associate and the Coordinator of the Media Unit at the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) in Colombo, Sri Lanka and has written widely on topics related to media, conflict and technology for peace building. Mr. Hattotuwa has examined issues related to democracy and governance - focussing on the structural underpinnings of conflict and its impact on post-conflict societal transformation. Till 2002, he was the Editor of Peace Monitor, the only bi-monthly publication dealing specifically with peace building in Sri Lanka at the time. Mr. Hattotuwa was also the principal Track Two researcher at CPA from 2001 – 2002 and helped organise and facilitate strategic conferences and workshops between key actors of the conflict both locally and internationally. As Coordinator of the Media Unit, he was responsible for the overall management of the Unit and its strategic and research foci, and designed blueprints and conducted workshops to build media capacities in Sri Lanka and Nepal. At present, he is the Strategic Manager of Info-Share, an Information Communications Technology (ICT) initiative created to bridge gaps in communication between the main stakeholders in the Sri Lankan peace process and enable greater public participation, accountability and transparency in processes of peacebuilding. Mr. Hattotuwa is responsible for mapping all the activities of the Info-Share initiative in Sri Lanka, and pursuing research on the use of technology in peacebuilding. Mr. Hattotuwa is also on the Editorial Board of the Online Journal of Peace and Conflict Resolution (OJPCR) and a Fellow of the 21st Century Trust, a leading think tank in the UK specialising in developing cutting edge thinking on socio-economic problems. He is also a Fellow of the Center for Information Technology and Dispute Resolution. The Center exists to support and sustain the development of information technology applications, institutional resources, and theoretical and applied knowledge for better understanding and managing conflict. |
